Icelandic Sheep are the featured breed this year at the Manitoba Fibre Festival, September 6 & 7 in Winnipeg. At this gathering of fibre farmers, artisans, and those who appreciate fine craft, Icelandics will be celebrated for their beautiful wool. You can meet the sheep - along with other sheep breeds, alpacas, and Angora rabbits - see prize winning designs using Icelandic yarns, and talk with the shepherds from Luckystone Acres to learn more about this wonderful breed and their wool.
The Manitoba Fibre Festival is a family friendly event including workshops, demonstrations, a fibre art show, a fleece show and sale, and a market focussed on natural fibres and tools for fibre artists.
Several Manitoba farms with Icelandic flocks will be represented in the market, selling everything from yarns to sheepskins. Visit the booth of Icelandic knitwear designer Sigrún Arna for inspiration, patterns and kits for knitting with Icelandic wool.
