The Icelandic Festival of Manitoba is a vibrant cultural celebration that showcases the rich heritage of Icelandic traditions, arts, and community spirit.

We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled Festival Operations Manager who will play a crucial role in overseeing the logistical and operational aspects of our festival. The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented, strategic thinker with strong organizational and leadership skills. As the Festival Operations Manager, you will play a pivotal role in orchestrating the operational aspects of the Annual Icelandic Festival of Manitoba. You will work closely with the festival's executive board of Directors, and event Chairs, with the support of the Festival Administration Manager and seasonal staff, to ensure the seamless execution of all festival-related activities. Your leadership, attention to detail, and ability to manage a diverse range of responsibilities will be crucial in maintaining the festival's reputation for excellence.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Festival Management and Coordination:

Plan and execute comprehensive operational plans to ensure the smooth execution of events.

  • Provide comprehensive oversight of all festival elements to execute the festival to a high standard.
  • Collaborate effectively with the Production teams to ensure schedules and budgets are adhered to.
  • Oversee and support logistical aspects of the festival.
  • Collaborate with all teams to ensure a well-coordinated approach to festival operations.

Team Management:

  • Lead and supervise a team of operational staff and volunteers.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative working environment to maximize team efficiency.

Event Planning and Execution:

  • Collaborate with the event chairs to ensure the smooth scheduling and execution of activities.
  • Coordinate labor requirements and oversee festival operation and production budgets.

    Budget Oversight:
  • Work with the executive team to hone and manage the festival operating budget, monitoring expenses and identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising the quality of the event.

Vendor and Sponsor Relations:

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with vendors, sponsors, and partners.
  • Support Event Chair and assigned staff with respect to Vendor and Sponsor relations as required.

Risk Management:

  • Identify potential risks and develop contingency plans to mitigate them.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards.

On-Site Management:

  • Oversee on-site operations, effectively managing unforeseen challenges and maintaining a seamless experience for attendees.

Health and Safety Compliance:

  • Ensure adherence to protocols established around a safe and secure festival environment.
    Oversee safety plans, site maps, security coverage, traffic coordination, paid duty officers, emergency medical services, and weather services.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of experience in event operations, preferably in festivals or cultural events.
  • Experience managing staff or overseeing contractors.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations and risk management practices for large events.
  • Proficiency in budget management and financial oversight.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing circumstances in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working with volunteers and managing teams.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and extended hours leading up to and during the festival.
  • A resident, of Canada who is legally authorized to work in Canada.

Compensation

This is expected to be a multi-year contract position with flexible hours leading up to and directly after the festival, driven by project needs and your experience.

The anticipated start date is early April 2023 with at minimum a 5-month commitment requiring 16 – 40+ hours per week. Compensation and timelines will be discussed during the interview process. 

The prorated annual salary for this role falls within the $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 CAD range, reflecting the working hours and level of experience.
