Viking Village August 3-6, 2018
Welcome to our village. The village is presented to demonstrate the lifestyle and culture of 9th and 10th century Western European nations of Danish, Norse, Swede, Finn, Anglo – Saxon, Hiberno Norse, and Dane law (Central England and Scotland) many of whom travelled to and settled in what are now the present locations of Iceland, Greenland, The Faroe Islands, Newfoundland (Canada) and Baffin Island.
The people of these communities were collectively known throughout history as Vikings. They expanded and travelled due to their incredible skill of building ships and navigation. Norse settled in what is now France and became known as The Normans (Norsemen) or men from the North. Their influence spread across to England through conquest and settlement resulting in a major shift of that country's political growth and monarchy lines which is still in power today. Their network stretched from Newfoundland to Russian and from Norway to North Africa (three times the size of the Roman Empire)
Each year, communities would come together for the Althing (great council) to settle disputes, trade and make and renew oaths and acquaintances. Historically, great Borgs or hjeims (forts or villages) were built on these sites to establish centers of commerce and trade on a more permanent basis.
As you visit the village, you will encounter a large number of highly skilled reenactors demonstrating the day to day lifestyle of the Vikings. They will interact with you. They may or may not be "in character". Please be sure to ask questions. We will be happy to answer you.

The village will close during the combat show and we ask all visitors to come out to the field and watch our show. It's very educational and entertaining.
The shows will go on regardless of weather, but may be called in the event of thunder, lighting or extremely high winds (we don't want our village to blow away or get struck by lighting).
Rules of the Village
The things you see on display are mostly hand crafted and as such are precious to us. There will be a trading tent where you may be able to purchase some of the things that we use. Please ask before handling or touching anything in the village. Due to public health regulations we are not permitted to share food or other consumables with the public.
Otherwise, come on in and enjoy yourselves royally!
