I think it would be alot of fun going to Íslendingadagur in Canada. Im sure the history is worth exploring. Thinking of making my own by actually moving to Manitoba like so many before me. There has got to be something over there smile kveðjur

smile I am really looking forward to the festival. My grandparents on both sides came from Iceland - lived in Gimli and eventually settled in Steep Rock and the Narrows area. My grandmother, Kristin Stefanson (nee Brynjolfson) was a teacher in the area and west for many years. It is great to mingle and hear the accents that were so familiar long ago. It feels like coming home.

As a former Manitoban living in the UK I am excited to be able to bring my husband and 6 year old to Gimli this year to experience the festival first hand, especially the sandcastle building!

Hello, I stumbled onto this site, really interesting. I have made a promise to myself to visit New Iceland as soon as I can.
Best of luck with the festival, greetings from old Iceland.
Ps. It is the national holiday today, June 17, celebrating the independence from Denmark in 1944. Gleðilega hátíð!!
